Let the Barbecue Season Start

Friday, April 30th, 2010

It’s time to delouse your grills, put on your shorts and flip flops and enjoy the day out bbqing and puffing countless hand made cigars. Together with my fave cigars, I really like to drink a drink of scotch and just relax. After such a long winter, which seemed to be longer than years past, last weekend was perfect BBQ weather. I was able to ultimately open all of my windows and air out the house. I don’t smoke within, it required displaying out anyhow. I tuned up my grass mower because yes, sadly it is that time of the year too. The snow is gone and the grass is growing. I don’t mind cutting my grass and keeping the turf up. There is basically a great satisfaction to a good looking grass and worth all the effort. This past weekend, I smoked my favorite cigar and BBQ’d up some ribs and pork steaks. I like to think of myself as the master cook, king of the grill. There is nothing like lighting those coals and going to the town on bounteous meats and vegetables. Naturally I think of myself as a charcoal man, I adore the flavor of the grill. If you use gas, it does not get the smokey flavor that I adore and is way overrated. I invited all of my buddies and naturally the wife and youngsters were there. It is a little to cold to swim yet, but once commemorative day comes around, I’ll open the pool for the season. My youngsters love swimming and splashing around, I am also known to take a dip with hand made cigars and scotch in hand. Summer is just such a great time to get together with family and friends and enjoying life they way you want to.

What’s happened to the Jamaican Stogie?

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

I have smoked Macanudo Cigars for years now, and read that they came from Jamaica. That looked unusual becauce I have not heard much about Jamaican tobacco. Allegedly, Cuban immigrants brought tobacco seeds to Jamaica, as they did each where else they moved to. But due to hurricanes, labor issues and war, it has been a difficult road for the Jamaican tobacco plant. Macanudo, which came from Jamaica is now home made by General Cigar Company, located in Connecticut. They create quality, high end, premium cigars, including Macanudo. They use their own Connecticut shade wrappers, and numerous tobaccos from the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Africa for the filler and binder. These are my favourite cigars for lots of reasons, I love the sweet but spicy flavor. They are strong, but not overpowering. I will smoke once per day and be satisfied. There are just a few known Jamaican cigars around nowadays, and they appear tough to come by. If the others taste as well as a Macanudo, I may switch, but for now I am sticking to what I love.

The Simple way to keep your Cigar in Perfect Condition

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

For folk who smoke premium cigars, it can turn into something of a hang-up. As time passes, cigar smokers regularly develop definite rituals that they adhere to each time they smoke a smoke, and can be quite obsessive about how they protect their smokes.  If you are not privy to this obsession of smoking the  ‘perfect’ cigar, then you also possibly don’t understand the necessity for a cigar humidor.  The basic point of a cigar humidor is to both store and protect cigars.  Many cigar enthusiasts believe that cigars need to be stored at a specific temperature so as to keep their peak flavour.  That’s’s exactly what the cigar humidor does – maintains a steady temperature.  You shouldn’t have to store machine made cigars like your Black and Milds in a humidor. Viewpoints change, but it’s’s typically believed the range between 68 and seventy degrees Fahrenheit is perfect for cigars.  The humidity also needs to be controlled, and kept at a level typically 70-72% humidity.  Cigar fans have long discussed about the perfect temperature needed for the storing of cigars.  Some demand that even a slight fluctuation in temperature can prove damaging to the flavor of their cigars, and insist on a temperature of seventy degrees Fahrenheit.  Others are a bit more flexible and allow a slight quantity of temperature fluctuation.  Generally all of them agree that the lower the temperature, the faster the cigar will age, which will then cause a reduction in flavor.  If you’d like to maintain the flavour, integrity and color of your favorite smokes, then a cigar humidor is vital.  What features should you look for when buying a cigar humidor?  The one necessary feature is that it has to be fully closed once the lid is shut.  If the lid isn’t snug and secure, then it’s possible that the temperature or humidity inside will fluctuate.  A lid that’s’s tight also impedes any other outside elements contaminating the cigars, and inhibits any moisture exchange.  It’s helpful if the inside of the cigar humidor is smooth and continuing, to stop snagging of cigars ( or fingers ).  It’s also helpful to have fittings within the humidor to help in the storing of the smokes.

Only a Couple Days to the Smoking Restriction

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

All Right, my town has adopted a smoking ban for all public facilities, with only a small number allowances. I am so tired of my constitutional rights being eliminated, I am annoyed. I do not fathom the reason non-smokers have such a assertive judgement on what us smokers are doing. I understand that smoking is harmful, but I made a conscience choice when I took up smoking, observant of the fact it was harmful. Just because non-smokers want me to stop, will not mean that it’s going to happen. Smoking in restaurants has been a privilage, but most restaurants have a special smoking area. If you do not want to breathe in the smoke, don’t sit in the smoking area, you are not unwilling made to sit in that section. And as well as the employees of these pubs that comment they are distressed by second hand smoke, what a joke. I worked in the hospitality industry for more than 10 years, and I know that most of thepeople I worked with were smokers.  Dealing with the public, always, drives you to smoke.  And, I have never overheard any non-smoking co-worker ever protest about cigarette smoke while on the job in the smoking area. Putting a smoking restriction in restaurants and bars, can only save me money, considering I refuse to eat out after the January 1st.

All I need for my Present: Smokes!

Friday, December 18th, 2009

I have concluded this holiday to ask for trustworthy presents that my wife can pick out comfortably for me. My number one gift, as always, is my favorite cigar from helix-cigars.com. My wife doesn’t even have to take leave of the house, she can go on the internet (I have all my favorites sites saved) and enter the order there. As far as anything else, she can head over to the local store and pick out a gift. She debates every holiday that I am utterly complicated person to shop for. But we have been married for over 15 years! And if she doesn’t know the things I like by now, I give up. I continuously mention every year, “I want cigars”, I puff on 1 or 2 in a day, and that adds up. I have a humidor for storing my cigars, “what’s that for?” she inquires. Well my beloved, it’s to keep my cigars alive. So, if you get me cigars for christmas I can keep them in there for a couple months and remove a stogie when I am wanting to fancy one. Although I have to say, I was lucky last year, she bought me a lighter that was ingraved with my initials. The year before, she bought me a fishing pole, unfortunately I said I would like to go fishing again someday. Well, I went fishing only once since then, but guess what, I still smoke 1-2 cigars a day. So what do I want for the holiday this year? I want Stogies, and anything else would just be an additional enjoyment.

Cigars: Facts for the average stogie smoker

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

The simplest method of identifying cigars is by the method in which they are made. Cigars are either rolled by hand, or manufactured by machines. The novice smoker may be tempted to start by trying those machine made brands sold in Drug Stores, such as Garcia Vega. However, the aspiring connoisseur should consider spending a few more pennies and moving up to hand rolled cigars, which are sold on the internet or at a local smokeshop.

Daily Smokers Vs Connoisseurs
MostIndividual cigar smokers have their own specific tastes, and have their own individual bugeting. Those who like smoking several cigars per day may need an “everyday” cigar that is cheap. Therefore, the taste and cost of machine made cigars can be very attractive to some smokers. However, to the beginner or experienced connoisseurs, the ones who enjoy an occasional cigar as a special treat, the hand rolled cigar is worth every dime.
